Group adventure- the temple of Sento Empty Group adventure- the temple of Sento

Each girl being held in the arena was approached by a guard bearing a note. These notes were sent by an envoy under Queen Syndra. Each scroll said the following:

"Queen Syndra has recently become aware of a dark sect of mages taking refuge in the Temple of Sento, dark god of the snakes. These mages are users of the dark arts and must be stopped. They have abducted girls from nearby towns for their nefarious purposes.

So, if any of you fighters are bold enough, or perhaps desperate enough, you can volunteer to venture forth and vanquish the mages. The temple is laden with ancient traps: Only those of great skill and valor need bother. If you succeed in this undertaking you will either receive a commuted sentence or a reward, depending on your actions and success.

There is one last matter. There is a legend that the Obsidian sword is in the temple. Whichever fighter retrieves this sword will receive the greatest reward from the Queen herself."

Jallan read the scroll which the guard gave her. she considered the implications. An ancient temple holding a cabal of evil mages? This sounded dark and dangerous indeed. She was a sword fighter, not a cleric or wizard. She knew little of such things.

But, she'd lost again and again in the arena. She couldn't bare it, her modesty was being besmirched and destroyed publicly time and time again! Even worse that she was starting to enjoy it physically! She had to get out! It was worth it.

She'd also heard of the Obsidian blade. Wielded by Voss the light bringer, legendary warrior of ancient times. It was said to hold power over any dark or undead magic. If she got her hands on that she could demolish evil mage and their dark servants alike! In her well trained hand she would be unstoppable! Also, it was obvious that was what the Queen really wanted. The way it was discreetly wedged in at the end made it all the more obvious that was what she was really after. Why would she care about abducted farm girls? She must need the blade. If Jallan brought it to her, maybe that would buy her freedom!

That was enough for her. She rose, handing the scroll back to the guard.

"I'll do it." She said.

"You are the first to agree." The guard said. "When all the other fighters have decided we will leave immediately."

Irlana thought the sound of battling a whole sect of mages sounded exciting.  What matter if she had little use for a sword?  She'd enjoy the reward for it.  Jessica had recently twisted her ankle, and was unable to join her, but she held her in bed in a long embrace before letting her set out.

It was a surprise then that she saw someone else she knew there.  Marisol, the former guard captain of the now-imprisoned Marquesa.  She hoped this didn't mean the Marquesa was nearby; she was more apt to join a sect of evil mages than fight them.  Irlana smiled, as she knew some things about Marisol that weren't common knowledge yet.  This leverage might make tolerating the presence of a former enemy more bearable.

"My, Marisol, you're looking busty today," she smiled sarcastically.  The warrior woman's armor gleamed in the light, and indeed, from the cut of the armor, she was a very curvy woman.  "Who invited you?"  The disgraced mercenary growled back.

((Character sheet for Marisol forthcoming.  Basic fighter type, heavy armor, sword, shield.  Decent stats, probably no special abilities.))

Fujimi was wandering in the arena when the guard give her a scroll. "An ancient temple ? dark mage ? Ooooooh ! This is very interesting for me ! time to shine again ! I, Fujimi, the wandering spirit will participate to this quest ! Beware evil doer ! I come for you. And maybe there is some treasure in this temple !" Fujimi return to her to prepare her backpack.

Seeing that they would have no other volunteers, the guards gathered the four women together. Each, for their own reasons, wanted to take up this quest. Though few of them cared at all for the kingdom, the possible rewards were worth the risk they faced.

A guard went down the lineup, giving each woman a ring. Once on their finger the rings changed shape, constricting or expanding to fit their different hands. They were shocked to find that once on the rings did not come off!

"These are magic rings, from Queen Syndra." The guard explained. Sure enough, each Ring had Syndra's royal seal engraved on it. "With these she will be able to see you, wherever you go. These are to prevent desertion. If you try to run, know that our mighty queen will know and punish you accordingly!"

"The rings will also allow Syndra to watch you, when she's not too busy with matters of court." The guard explained. "That way she will know if you succeed, and who did the most to help the quest!"

While this guard spoke another female soldier brought four horses, saddled and reined, ready to ride.

"The Temple of Sento is a week's ride from here." The guard explained. "Each horse has a water skin and some rations, though you will probably have to forage for your own supplies after a few days, depending how thrifty you are. Before the temple is a small village, where the missing girl's came from. If you feel it will be helpful head there first. If you do not believe they will have any useful information then head straight to the temple. Retrieve the sword and be wary: For beyond the evil's of the mages, this temple is well know to be cursed and dangerous!"

((Is it too late to throw the Cleric Lavinia in? I don't want to be a hog, but I realized she'd be hilarious here last night. She can run along late, or be already there, attempting to do this of her own accord. And if its too many characters, Marisol can have a nonlethal but hilarious accident to put her out of the running.))

Irlana spoke up.  "Let's stop by the village on the way.  We might learn something important about what we're facing."  Behind her, Marisol was making faces, moving her head and her lips, mocking her.  

"Hey Lana," said Marisol, "What is that accent you have?  Not quite Almeridan.  I know the Almeridan accent."

Irlana looked at her scornfully, "I guess I'm just destined to be a mystery to you."

"Ooooh, why so prickly?  Is it what I did to that girl of yours at the party?"  Irlana shot a murderous glance at Marisol, then, as if in afterthought, broke into a sarcastic smile.  "And that party turned out so well for you, I remember.  Want me to recount how it ended, for those who weren't present?"

Marisol fell silent.  She didn't want a discussion of the events that brought down her employer, and led to her disgrace.  "Village it is, then."

Irlana looked at Fujimi as they rode toward the village, understanding as a mage that something was very odd about her.  "So, what's your story?"

Fujimi who was a little surprise that someone ask her story, stop her walk looked the girl who was talking, try to take a scary face and begin to tell "I'm an ancient ghost who exist since more 300 years ! And I wanted to drink some virgin ! So I attacked an orphanage to drink the blood of the innocent children ! But a group a Pious and skilled monk arrive and with their power they cursed me ! I was doomed to be half dead and half alive, private of my once powerful power and prisoner of this childish and unpretty body ! So I roam on this land to find something to break the curse" she was telling that with a gloomy voice. except for her age, all the story was an awful lie ! (lying under charisma roll : 17)

"So I was thinking, there maybe a spell or some artifact to break the curse. I'm so weak and disgusting in this appearance !" say Fujimi to approve her lies !

Jallan, having grown up in a warrior monastery, was totally naive, and easily fooled. So, when she heard Fujimi's outrageous story she found herself gulping in fear, angling her horse so she'd be farther from the strange small woman. What frightening things there were in this world!

Travel went fine, until the third night of their trip. Supplies were running low. They were in a deep, dark forest when the sun set. The four women bedded down, unaware that these woods were patrolled by a gang of bandits, who'd been watching them for hours! The bandits waited until the girl's laid down, their fire dying out, before they attempted to sneak in and rob the girl's blind!

(Bandit dex 7+ roll 4= 11 to stealth. Roll perception to see if you wake up in time to stop them!)

Marisol gulped, but Irlana was worldly, well-travelled and learned in magic, she adopted a patronizing smile, that Fujimi might have noticed.  Fujimi felt like the mage regarded her like a child, and that was irritating.  Unlike Marisol, Irlana made no attempt to distance himself from Fujimi, but instead became more curious.  

((Marisol Perception roll 12, Irlana 17 (critical, although I don't know what that means on perception.))

Irlana heard a twig snap nearby.  Her days of sleeping on the streets of Almerida had made her a light sleeper.  There were plenty of dangerous there for a beautiful young woman, and learning to deal with them had helped craft her into the powerful mage she'd become.

She went to rouse Marisol, but found that the warrior was already quietly unsheathing her sword from its scabbard.  They silently counted to three, then jumped up, Marisol making a war cry intended to wake the others.  Irlana's wand disappeared, not that anyone would have noticed, but the faint blue glow around her was somewhat more perceptible in the dark.

Both women were experienced enough in combat that instead of rushing in, they'd use their surprise advantage to assess the number and make-up of the bandits, while trying to wake any sleeping comrades.

Apparently the named Irlana seem doesn't believe the story of Fujimi but instead looked her as a child. That make Fujimi grumble. Since she a nearly living body, Fujimi have discover the joy of the sleep and become a heavy sleeper. so actually she was still sleeping and doesn't hear anything. (perception roll 10. I made a 2 on my dice Sad )
She continue to sleep even after the war cry of the warrior (perception roll, fumble with a beautiful ace !^^)

There were eight bandits, double the girl's numbers. Though at first this might seem frightening, none of the bandits were that well armed. Most had daggers, only one having a longsword. A few simply had clubs. They were all men, in ragged clothes with beards. They looked to be a desperate, hungry bunch.

The bandit's split up. The main force of them, led by the one with the longsword, ran forward to face the two standing women as the rest of the group started to awaken. All except Fujimi, who rolled peacefully around on her bed roll.

Long sword man and two with daggers tried to encircle Marisol. Two with daggers came at Irlana, somewhat weary of her strange glow. The remaining three charged the horses, intent on stealing those!

Tired from her long day of riding, Jallan was tempted to ignore the chaos and stay bedded down. When she heard the sound of Marisol's sword sliding out of the sheath though, she felt roused to battle. She jumped up, grasping her sword which way beside her. Taking a quick glance around, she picked out the three bandits who were going to the horses and charged at them to save their mounts!)

(Speed 10 + roll 2= 11. Will do bandits after everyone else takes their actions)

(I guess roll another perception to see if you rise, I'll have the bandit's go, forgot your the only one who hadn't acted.)

(Bandit's speed 6 + roll 2= Cool

Jallan barrelled into the slowest of the bandits, knocking him to the ground. He rose, menacing his dagger at her while the other two ran to the horse.

Meanwhile the man with the long sword held Marisol's attention. He seemed to be the most dangerous. While he kept his sword level at her face the other two attempted to jump her from each side!

(I'll give them one roll for their group attack, Dex 7+ roll 2= 9)

The two engaged with Irlana attempt to grapple her, each trying to grasp her arms from each side and restrain her

(Strength 5 + roll 2= 7. All two's for the bandits!)

Irlana grabbed for one of the dagger men's hands, she intended to pick him up, and use him as a battering ram to knock down other opponents as she ran for the horses.

Marisol took a swing to disarm the one with the longsword. ((Str 10 + roll 4= 14))

(Jallan Strength 8 + roll 7= 15)

Jallan slammed the bandit to the ground, knocking him prone. She turned him over then slammed the hand guard of her sword into his head, knocking him out. Unfortunately, while she was doing so the other two reached the horses! One bandit started to mount, while the other began untying the reigns.

(Bandit defense strength 5 + roll 7= 13)

Irlana lifted up one of the dagger wielding men who harassed her and threw him into the other. They fell in a helpless tangle. She was free to pursue the ones stealing horses.

Marisol skillfully slapped the sword from the lead bandit's hand. Obviously he had no training! While she did that though the two other wielding clubs came at her from each side, trying to bash her while she was occupied with their leader.

(Strength 6 + roll 7= 13 to hit Marisol)

Marisol ducked out of the way of the clubs, then took a swing at one of the men.
((Critical fail on swing))

Irlana used her magical strength to launch herself at the mounted man, hoping to knock him out of the saddle. ((str 10+roll 9))

Marisol's swing went wide. The bandit's took full advantage of her wide open pose. One caught her sword arm, the other started tearing at her valuable armor, using his club to pry off her right arm plate!

(Speed 6 + roll 5= 11)
Irlana flew like a missile, slamming the bandit off his horse. He crumbled in a pile against a nearby tree, too bruised to rise. The one attempting to untie the horses turned to run, shocked by Irlana's incredible display!

Irlana jumped off the horse and made certain their ropes were tied tight before turning to see if her companions needed help.

Marisol was irritated. She spat, "That armor is worth more than your puny little life, and you're going to pay for it with your blood." Sure, that was a bit much, but mercenaries weren't really known for their compassion. She held her bastard sword with both hands and swung it at the bandit. ((Str 10+ roll 4))
