Alexia's Corner Empty Alexia's Corner

Post by Phantompen Sun Jun 29, 2014 12:47 pm

Alexia stepped into the Ripped Bodice with a look of something like nostalgia. While the imposing woman was new to Enferia, she had spent her life as a warrior in the hard north, and there was little to do with your free time in the frigid lands other than enjoy the comfort of a tavern.

Still, Alexia was a stranger in a land led by her conqueror, and even now the fallen general couldn't let her guard down. Taking a table at the corner of the main hall (so as to prevent being approached from behind), Alexia sat with her back to the corner and ordered the strongest ale the establishment had.

Rather than her armor, the Rose of the North was dressed in more casual and comfortable attire. The woman was dressed in a white doublet and black wool pants. Above the doublet she wore a blue tabard bearing the sigil of her house: a white rose. While she lacked her armor, her sword was still at her hip, its scabbard fastened to her belt.

Alexia might not have known anybody in this strange new land, but a place like this would be as good a place as any to start. Until then, the warrior would content herself to simply drink.

Alexia's Corner Empty Re: Alexia's Corner

From her position in the corner, Alexia could see all who came and went.  For a long while, no one dared disturb the lone figure, who regarded each of them with a piercing gaze, as if sizing them up.  Only the tavern maids came to take her order, and did so rather quickly and timidly.  Eventually, a lone figure walked slowly and deliberately toward her, meeting her gaze as she did.  Her brown hair framed a face that seemed unquestionably elven, but the thickness of her body was enough to raise doubts on the matter.  She was clad in full armor, half-plate with some chain, and carried a sword studded with odd green stones.  Oddest of all, her face bore a design colored in white makeup, edged in black.  It wasn't like anything commonly seen by humans of the city or the country.  What did she want?  She was clearly no city-guard.

"You," she spoke in a soft voice at once confident and conspiratorial, "look like a warrior."

Alexia gave the woman a curious look. She certainly hadn't been expecting such an odd woman to approach her when everyone else seemed so timid.

"I am. And you... look like the strangest elf I've ever seen, if you'll pardon me for being blunt." Alexia said. "So, miss, do you need a strong sword?"

"Well," she said shrugging off the strangeness comment so as not to tip her hand, "if I were interested in hiring a large band of warriors for a far-off job, wo would I speak to around here?"

"I wouldn't know." Alexia admitted with a shrug. "I'm not from around here. Still, depending on the work, I might be interested in this job of yours."

Alexia set her drink down, resting her arms on the table and leaning forward slightly. "What are you planning?"

The elf sat in the nearest chair, leaning forawrd amd speaking quietly. "I am planning a meeting, of sorts," her voice quavered. She dropped a small, rather ornate button on the table. Alexia recognized it as the sort of toggle used to fasten some types of armor. This button was emblazoned with a pincone surmounted by a helm, with crossed swords in front of it. "I'd like to meet the leader of the band who wears these. My sources have suggested, after some convincing, that many sellswords can be hired here, and that this group, or at least some of its number, has been seen in the city. If you have seen or heard anything, I'd owe you a great favor, once my business here is completed." Miryala frowned momentarily, concerned she might have said too much. then grabbed a tankard of mead from the tray of a passing tavern maid, iand, after imbibing deeply, wipef her lips with the back of her hand, She tossed a small silver coin in the direction of the server, whose expression indicated that the payment was fair, but only barely. The elf shrugged in response. Her entire act of drinking seemed almost a simple skit, perhaps performed to prevent revealing her emotions more than she had.

Alexia tried to ignore the elf's rather rude behavior towards the serving girl. It irritated the honor-conscious warrior, but she knew better than to impose her values on others, at least others she had no authority over. Grabbing the button and holding it up for inspection, Alexia seemed curious for a moment before speaking.

"Can't say I've seen it before, but I can say that you're probably looking for elves. Most human companies don't use nature in their insignia, at least nothing that isn't overtly ferocious. Wolves, lions, falcons, bears, that sort of thing, but not pine cones. Elven companies respect all nature as ferocious in its own way." The woman explained, idly rotating the button between two fingers. "Not that I feel you need to have it explained to you, I'm just theorizing out loud. So, why these sellswords in particular?"

Miryala lowered her voice, "These warriors were humans, or so I've been told. There were mages in their company. With masks." She looked left and right to make certain no one was very near before continuing, "When I arrived home, everyone was gone..except the one girl who witnessed it. Sure enough, there were signs of a struggle, and I'm no tracker but it isn't hard to trace such a large group to the coast. Tracking a ship, however, is a different matter. Everyone along the route seemed afraid to talk about what they saw, or somehow they missed a warrior band with a village full of elves in captivity going by, which seems unlikely." Her eyes looked like they were tearing up, and it was apparent she had already said too much, but could no longer hold back. "We haven't had any enemies in centuries our elders who had to fight with our neighbors to carve out a place where we could be left alone have been gone for generations of humanity. Why would they want to attack us...what will they do with my people?" Suddenly, she took a deep breath and forced her composure back, her eyes still wide with concern, her head turning about suspiciously in case anyone heard.

Post by Phantompen Sun Jul 06, 2014 1:46 pm

Alexia frowned as she listened to Miryala's story. An entire village with no apparent enemies wiped out in a surprise attack. Sellswords at that, making it difficult to trace who they worked for.

"You're not going to like what I think." Alexia said, lowering her voice as well. "To be perfectly honest with you, it sounds like it could be slavers. Taking entire villages prisoner isn't war, it's profit; and the fact that they bought silence from those you questioned suggests they've got money to spare."

Looking around to make sure nobody was trying to listen in, she continued. "I've dealt with this kind of thing before, in my homeland. Of course, I had thousands of soldiers to canvas the countryside and take the fight to the culprits. I'm only one woman, but I'll gladly help you save your people if you can find them."

Miryala sniffled, "I feared as much. Thank you. I'm afraid that right now I have little to offer in return for your kindness, save the use of my sword arm. I feel guilty that I was away when the attack took place. But...it's good they didn't get their hands on..." her voice darted away and she looked up from the hilt of her sword. Changing the subject, she suddenly seemed to remember her manners, "tell me of your homeland."

Post by Phantompen Sun Jul 06, 2014 2:36 pm

Alexia didn't bother pressing the subject when Miryala trailed off. She knew better than to press on something likely so sensitive.

"Technically I'm an Enferian citizen." Alexia said with a derisive snort. "Not like I ever asked for it. I'm from one of the Queen's latest northern conquests. We didn't accept the terms she offered for annexation, so she invaded. Not sure what story she fed the people here."

Alexia lowered her voice, knowing that speaking her mind on this subject was potentially dangerous anywhere in this city. "Her invasion was ruthless. Her army showed no mercy, left nothing standing. I lost friends and family in our hopeless defense. I've no idea what happened to our Queen or her daughter. Last time I saw them, I'd convinced them to escape... I can only hope they were successful."

"Ah, but you wanted to know of my home, not its sad story. It's a cold place, and it breeds hard people. It has beauty in its own way, though you southerners are unlikely to appreciate it. Our people are proud, and loyal. Enferia may hold our land, but it will never be welcomed or accepted."

"Don't apologize for the sadness of your story," the elf replied, summoning up the most encouraging tone she could draw on, "I'd be quite a hypocrite to judge. I didn't want to unload that on you, in fact, I was trying not to let it show, in case you or anyone in here associates with the group I seek."

(Out of character--Apologies, I've been away on work business for a while. In case the above text doesn't indicate, I've been cooking up an adventure in my head. It has a short preface in Enferia, with mostly these few characters, and then a larger bit abroad, with more room to sign up, I should be working on getting it rolling soon.)

Alexia's Corner Empty Re: Alexia's Corner

Post by Myds6 Mon Jul 14, 2014 3:51 pm

The warrior and the elf barely noticed the serving maid approach; the inn had several women darting from bar to table and back, carrying all manner of mugs, flagons, tankards, and an occasional plate of food. She didn't really stand out, garbed as she was in a way so common to most of her station. Sure, she was heavier set than some, but the only thing that might have been noteworthy was the thin ring of metal through her bottom lip, a marker that could be shrugged off as easily as any cultural idiosyncracy in a place as cosmopolitan as Enferia, and a sign of foreigness not unexpected in a tavern worker.

They might not have noticed her at all, except when she tripped on the outstretched leg of a customer, stumbled their way, then regained her balance most ungracefully, just barely staying on her feet. She seemed proud of herself for not having fallen to the dirty floor, and she smiled, but, as she looked up, she caught Miryala's glare. The elf had ale dripping from her hair and off her nose, and from the shocked expression on her face and the way she reached a hand behind her breastplate, her face wasn't the only body part to be saturated by the splashed pitcher of ale. Alexia looked down and noticed that, aside from a few splashes, only her boots had gotten wet, most of the ale having splashed onto the table, and the elf.

"I'm SO sorry!" she apologized, sheepishly biting her lip. The tavern maid seemed honestly apologetic, but did not avert her gaze or bow to humble herself before her betters as most in her position would.

Alexia shook her head amiably, holding up a hand to quiet the apologizing girl.

"Accidents happen." Alexia said. "Ale washes out easily enough, and I'm sure my companion here has a dry change of clothes somewhere. Or, should she not, there must be something here that could suffice? I think that would be a fair enough compensation."

Alexia seemed to not be bothered by the accident. The warrior simply wiped at the few splashes on her outfit absentmindedly as she spoke. Aside from being used to far worse, the fallen general could see that the barmaid was legitimately sorry and frightened. A nervous wreck, really, probably afraid she'd just spilled on someone important and doomed herself to the arena. Alexia had heard of a barmaid finding herself in just that predicament once after accidentally dousing one of the Queen's spies, earning her an indefinite stay in the arena with poor weapons and laughable attire for her fights.

Alexia's Corner Empty Re: Alexia's Corner

Post by Myds6 Tue Jul 15, 2014 3:15 pm

“I was actually trying to get your attention,” she stated matter-of-factly, “but not quite the way I happened to.  You can call me Niniane.  I help take care of these--this place.  I, um, didn’t mean to overhear your conversation, but I think I can help you.”

Looking at the dubious expression the elf’s face as she wrung a few more drops of ale from her hair, she continued.  “That trinket—I’ve seen the kind of armor it comes from.  About three weeks ago, a handful of sellswords were drinking at this very establishment.  They drank a lot, didn’t mind flashing their coin around.  One of them got a little too friendly with one of the girls, Sheila.  I explained that that’s not part of her job.  Well, the mercenary said some very rude things, and she picked up Sheila over her shoulder and started walking out.  That’s when I blocked her path through the doorway.  Well, she put down Sheila and came at me.  Somehow, her sword missed and got stuck in the doorframe.  You can still see the cut in the wood over there.  I thought we were even then, except that she was wearing armor.”

She paused for a breath, but continued before anyone else could get a word in, “So I kicked her hard, and while she was getting back on her feet, I picked up this cheese knife and cut some of the straps on her breastplate.  The toggle had markings, just like that—I remember it clear as day because, as I looked at that bruiser of a woman wearing a bra and gauntlets, I was so convinced I had won, I was laughing.  A punch to the gut, and I had removed her greaves.  You’d think she’d be padded under there, but no, just little yellow panties.  What I didn’t know was that her companions were waiting for her outside.”

She stopped for only a moment to grab a tankard of ale from a passing server’s tray.  Taking a quick gulp, she continued,  “I’m great with one or two, but five and no backup?  I had just managed to grab hold of the first one’s bra when the others grabbed me from behind.  They started to strip off my clothes, and the first one started punching my gut, when for no reason, the candle on a nearby table flew off it.  I know it sounds crazy, but it lit her panties afire!  She was dancing around like a jester, boobs swinging free, hands trying to put out the fire by slapping her backside until a companion turned a small cask of wine on its side and popped one end open.  Now I was fighting to break free, and having my skirt ripped off at the time, but I can still remember the sense of relief when she lowered her big bottom into that cask on wine…until she realized she was stuck!  She threatened the first people to laugh at her, but since soon it was the entire pub, no one was really concerned.  With one friend pulling her arms, and one holding down the cask, her bottom came free with a loud popping sound.  She looked down and saw what everyone else did, her panties, so burned by the fire, had fallen to pieces and her womanhood was on display, if you see what I’m getting at.  She was so furious, she helped remove the rest of my clothes and put them on herself.  Then, the others helped her dunk my head in the wine, again and again…and they were…calling me names and slapping me.  It was so humiliating.  At least Sheila got away.  Why am I telling you this?  Because I know where you can find them, and if you’re looking to take them down, I want a part of that.”

Miryala stared, speechless for a moment; this was a feeling to which she was unaccustomed.  The serving girl stared back, expectantly, waiting for a response.

Alexia blinked slowly. That... certainly wasn't the response she was expecting to hear from the serving girl. It wasn't really what she expected to hear at any time, but at least it seemed to be good news in a way.

"Well, it seems your list of companions grows." Alexia said to Miryala. "Yourself, a washed up general, and a barmaid with a grudge. Our enemies will cower in fear when they discover what's coming for them."

"I joke. But truly, if these sellswords did that to you, you have every right to want vengeance. I won't object to you tagging along if Miryala won't, but understand that this will be serious and dangerous work. The consequences for failure will be worse than getting slapped and called names."

Miryala spoke up. “Niniane? I sense that your main motivation here is revenge. It may indeed come to violence, but my goal is information. These mercenaries attacked my home, but someone must have sent them. We can’t force them into hostility before I find out what happened to my people.”

“I understand,” Niniane responded, “but this lot is hostile enough…they won’t reveal anything without a bit of incentive—mark my words. If we're all up for this, let's meet again tomorrow with everything we might need. I'll take you to them then."

The next afternoon, the group gathered again, determined to find out what could be learned from the mercenaries. Niniane sat quietly until everyone was present, then addressed them, "An…informant of mine, I suppose you'd call her, tells me that some of their number have been seen at a farmhouse on the outskirts of the city. Just out of the way enough that they don't get regular visits from the guard. Perhaps we should see what they are up to."

Post by Myds6 Tue Jul 15, 2014 10:32 pm

(OOC: Excited to get some combat going soon. Please let us know what Alexia is wearing)

As they stood up from the table and walked into the sunlight, Miryala was able to see that Niniane was dressed fairly similar to what she had been wearing the previous evening. A tavern maid's outfit consisting of a skirt, an apron, a blouse, and a corset or bodice. But there were two additions. A satchel, about a foot wide and a foot long, but only about three inches deep hung from her side. On her other side hung a sharp-looking knife that looked something like a chef's knife from the barbarian lands to the west.

Miryala for her part, was dressed the same. A platemail breastplate, with matching greaves and bracers. All were covered in exquisite inlay in the elven style. The lack of a gorget and helmet arguable left her neck too exposed, but left her with her keen elven senses intact, and offered a tempting hint of the cleavage beneath the breastplate. A heavy green skirt made of cloth padding finished off her armor, and matched the green gems that decorated her impressive sword, as well as the silver circlet on her forehead. This latter feature seemed to enhance the glitter from her dark green eyes.

"So Alexia, are you sure you want to do this? You're certainly under no obligation to help a stranger. I don't think I need to explain the risks to one who carries herself as such an experienced warrior."

"I'm as sure as I can be." Alexia answered. "These sellswords deserve punishment for what they did to Niniane alone, to make no mention of what they did to your people."

Alexia certainly looked prepared for combat. Her polished steel armor was the color of old snow, the sigil of her house proudly displayed across the breastplate. A padded half skirt covered the backs of her legs, while her front end was protected by her greaves. Unlike Miryala, Alexia had her neck protected by a sturdy gorget, and delicately curving pauldrons covered her shoulders. Her sword, shining and razor sharp, rested at her hip off her black leather belt.

"If any of my soldiers did something like this, I'd have them clapped in irons. Since I can't do that, it's time for a more hands-on approach to punishment."

Alexia's Corner Empty Re: Alexia's Corner

Post by Myds6 Wed Jul 16, 2014 5:58 pm

The walk through the city was uneventful. After passing the gates in the great walls, the trio enjoyed the fresh air, punctuated mainly by the smell of flowers and herbs, and the occasional fragrant horse droppings on the road or animal pen. This was a huge improvement over the confined air of the city. They passed many travelers and merchants along the relatively busy roads leading to the capital, and the three made small talk amongst themselves as people do to remain calm when about to undertake a serious task. At the base of a small rise, Niniane stopped, and pointed to a farmhouse down the road. “That should be it. Are we ready for anything?”

The group nodded, in agreement, and became silent and serious.

Walking up to the small farmhouse, Miryala looked around warily. The nearby crops didn’t seem to have been tended recently, and the pigstye contrained only three pigs, when it was obviously built for more. “This seems right. Whoever’s living here right now is no farmer.” Niniane, in her best attempt to be quiet, approached the farmhouse door and tried it. “Locked,” she stated, sounding disappointed.
It was then that three heavily armored women with swords stepped out from behind their cover. All of them wore platemail armor, treated with a greenish patina, in various stages of completion and repair. The tallest of them, large and somewhat pear shaped, with reddish hair and a beige complexion, blocked the road ahead of them. “We were told to expect you. It seems someone has been asking a lot of questions. And I’m betting it’s you.” She pointed her sword in the direction of Miryala as she spoke. Niniane turned around to back off from her, when another warrior blocked the path from the other side., “We were told to neutralize you and bring you to the boss. If you’re smart, you’ll surrender.” As Niniane turned again, she nearly collided with a third warrior who appeared from behind the farmhouse, tall with dark hair in dreaded ponytails “I’m hoping you’ll resist—wait…..it’s you…from the tavern. You put up one hell of a fight. But this time, my sword isn’t stuck in the doorframe.”
“I think I liked you better with your burning ass stuck in that cask of wine,” Niniane taunted. “I have orders not to kill you,” replied the third warrior, “but we’ll see whose ass is burning soon!”

Combat initiative Roll:
Alexia d10+1 4+1=5
Miryala d10+1 4+1=5
Niniane d10-1 1-1=0!!! critical initiative failure?  Can that even happen?  I'll call it an automatic defense failure on the first round, then going last after.

Mercenary 1 (Dark dreads, tall) d10+0 = 9
Mercenary 2 (Redhead) d10+1 4+1=5
Mercenary 3 (Hourglass figure) d10+2 3+2=5

Order=Mercenary 1, Alexia, Mercenary 2, Miryala, Mercenary 3, Niniane.

Merc 1 dark dreads
[Platemail Greaves (3), Platemail Breastplate (4), Bra (1), Pauldrons (1)  Panties (1)]
Mercenary 2 red hair
Platemail Greaves (3), Platemail Breastplate (4), Pauldrons (1)Bra (1), Panties (1)
Merc 3 Long dark hair, impressively hourglass figure.
Platemail Greaves (3), Platemail Breastplate (4), Pauldrons (1) Bra (1), Panties (1)

Miryala
[Breastplate (5) Greaves (4) Outer Skirt (1) Pauldrons (1) Bra (1) Panties (1)]

Alexia

(Did I miss anything?  I was originally trying to find away around the pauldrons, because losing them isn't that interesting, hehe.   If the descriptions are a little lacking, pictures coming when I get some more downtime!)

The group squared off on the narrow dirt road between the farmhouse and the pigstye. At the far end was a well, and closer by, an empty stable.

Niniane seemed to have lost her nerve when dreadlocked mercenary taunted her. She stood like a statue as the woman's sword was already flying to her apron. The loud rrrrriiiipp of her clothing tearing away brought her back to reality. "Ha! I'm going to strip you of these clothes and smack you until you call out my name!" "I don't know your name." "I'm Juliana, a name you won't soon forget when I'm done with you!"
