Niabi, the Fetishist

Name: Niabi; She Who Walks Beyond

Race: Human

Face: Nia’s skin is reddish-brown, tanned both from her ancestry and lots of time spent in the sun. Nia’s eyes are an earthen brown, with arched, thin eyebrows that make her look like a little like a hawk. Nia is very self-conscious of her big ears, though her mentors tell her it means she has “great potential to learn.”

Hair: Nia’s coarse, black hair is braided in a long tail that comes halfway down her back.

Body Type: At 5’10,” Ni’s ancestry means that she is much taller than the average girl. Her legs are long and powerful, perfectly suited for hunting down prey- be it animal or human. She’s been working on her upper-body strength, but hasn’t put her heart into it; she knows that her modest chest would only shrink further if she really worked at it.

Clothing: Nia wears a loose tunic made from buckskin. Her lovingly decorated and inked skirt (her best reminder of her home) is secured in place by a leather belt. Underneath that is a pair of tan hide leggings. Of course, this is all ignoring the menagerie of fetishes Nia carries around with her (detailed below): a belt with bear claws hanging from its straps, a headdress with dozens of eagle’s feathers stuck in its band, a bracelet of snake’s skin, and a necklace with a rabbit’s foot.

Bio: Niabi always had trouble staying still. The first time she disappeared was when she was five. A week of frantic searching later, her family found her living with a grizzly bear and her cubs- the mama bear was very, very reluctant to give up her new ‘bub.’. The second time, an eight-year-old Nia got herself stuck on top of a cliff, where she had to beg for food from the birds until her teachers found her. This continued in an increasingly embarrassing series of disappearances until she reached the age where she could become a real Totemist.

Now a full member of her tribe, an eager Niabi has decided to test her strength- and the strength of the world outside. The best place to do that is all too obvious.

Abilities: Nia’s power comes from two things: Fetishes and Tattoos.

Fetishes: No, not like that. Niabi’s fetishes (or trinkets) are magically infused with the spirit of the animal they were taken from, and allow Niabi to alter her body as the situation requires.

Bear Claw Belt: A thick strip of hide encircles Nia’s waist, from which hangs a collection of bear claws. When Nia calls on its strength, she grows to twice her normal size and her physique changes to that of a muscle-bound, thick-skinned warrior. Good luck hurting her with ordinary weapons.

Eagle-Feather Headdress: Allows Nia to sprout wings from her back and fly. Nia makes sure to wear clothes that keep her shoulder blades bare for this reason.

Snakeskin leather bracelet: Niabi’s fingernails and teeth grow pointed, giving her a venomous bite and scratch.

Rabbit’s Foot Necklace: Sometimes, all you need is a little luck. A single rabbit’s foot hangs from a string around Nia’s neck.

SECRET: Nia keeps a few special trinkets in places that aren’t so easily seen.

Tattoos: Take away her trinkets, and Nia is still a formidable foe. Tattoos cannot alter her physically, but they can grant have interesting effects that aren’t as obvious.

Rabbit: Emblazoned on her left ankle, the Rabbit glows brown to give her a boost of lightning speed.

Raccoon: Etched on her right ankle, the Raccoon turns a dull gray to silence Nia’s movements and grant her nimble dexterity.

Turtle: The turtle tattooed over Nia’s navel turns green to give her the toughness to weather a thousand blows. Nia also says it makes her immune to tickles, but so far no one’s tested it.

SECRET: Some tattoos only become visible when the need arises…

SECRET: ...while others are meant to be shown only to certain people.

Apologies for not putting as much detail into the character sheet as I could. I prefer to expand on my descriptions in the stories themselves, and leave a few surprises for the ones who stick with it and read the posts.

Cool concept... Looks good to me as far as the amount of detail. Lots of potential there! There's something to be said for keeping some surprises and mystery. I look forward to seeing this character in action. ^_^

I tried to make your character, I apologize if some of the details (mainly the hair) didn't work out exactly as described...I did have some stuff with one long braided ponytail, but it looked very Victorian and overly prim.... Tell me if there's anything else I got wrong. Once I have her right, I might be able to illustrate a scene or two of your arena fight.



Oh, and she's purposely looking a little nervous here. I'm not a big fan of expressionless pictures, and there's no real narrative. I just thought nervous looked cute on her.

Could I ask you to hold off on the fight with Seline until the end, though? I like to edit as I go.

I might be able to do something about the rabbit's foot...the bear claws may be tricky...Ponytail...like I said, I have something like that, but it's kind of the wrong 'vibe.' I might be able to try one that's like a black version of Elsa's from Frozen....

There's no need to stress over it. I'm not particularly attached to how other people perceive my characters; all I do is write them the best I can.
