Zoraida II, “the Inexorable”

Queen of the neighboring Kingdom of Nysia, Zoraida makes frequent visits to Enferia to enjoy the spectacles Syndra has set up.  She and Syndra have an openly cordial relationship, but anyone who has seen an exchange between them would recognize some tension, the exact nature of which is hard to determine.

A powerful sorceress in her own right, Zoraida leads the militaristic Kingdom of Nysia, a position she inherited from her mother, Zoraida I, “the Obdurate.”  Her reputation for harshness and cruelty is something she sees befitting the governance of such a warlike state, and she cultivates it studiously.  There is much rumor in her court and abroad about her unwillingness to take a husband, and there are many theories that purport to explain the reason, but her enjoyment of Enferia’s arena might hint strongly that one of them is better-founded than the others.

Up until now, she’s always been merely a spectator at the games, but her kingdom’s fortunes, possibly combined with a new wrinkle in diplomatic relations with Enferia have opened up the opportunity for her to sponsor fighters.  Though a mage, her strongest preference is for powerful warriors and mercenaries, the kind of people she’d like to cultivate for the benefit of her own land, although her interests aren’t limited to one type of combatant.

As a queen, she has financial resources that, as far as arena combatants are concerned, are nearly unlimited, but she also brings substantial magic to the table.  This may or may not be useful, depending on the kind of deals she can negotiate with Syndra regarding its use in the events.

The reality, not known by many, is that Syndra’s relationship with her is one of tolerance.  Syndra doesn’t relish having other powerful and beautiful rulers/sorceresses at her events.  But Nysia’s armies are not to be trifled with.  Although Enferia’s ruler wields superior magics, international incidents are to be avoided.  Zoraida understands this, and will try to make the best deal she can with Syndra using the cards she has to play, while never showing open deference.  Syndra and Zoraida express the customary diplomatic respect each deserve, while not being overly chummy at this point in time.

Zoraida is rumored to have agents that have infiltrated many businesses, guilds, and even aspects of the Enferian government and military, but some say this is merely a tale to frighten children.

Resources: (I made up these sponsor stats-- a 1/10 scale. Most of them, the 10s should be only for Syndra. I didn't roll for these, I picked them according to lore and logic.)

Influence: 7, in Enferia, 10 elsewhere
Wealth: 10 (in relation to how much money would ever be needed to influence the game. A character's wealth might be more than 10--Syndra might have a 220 score here or something, but the point is 'how much wealth do they really need to influence arena stuff?' Let's imagine a wealthy merchant is a 6 or 7 here.)
Cunning: 9 (represents subterfuge, politics, spy network intel, etc)
Magic: 8 (10 should be reserved for Syndra only)

I suppose they should have personal stats as well, as the other ones represent the power they can exert in society at large.  They'll never fight in the arena, but who knows what we'll need these for:

(Rolls: 9,3,4,10,5,4,9,1,8,10)
STATS:
Strength: 4
Dexterity: 4
Constitution: 5
Speed: 8
Wisdom: 9
Perception: 10
Intelligence: 10
Charisma: 9

((If you guys don't already know, you can pick how many rolls of what die to do here: https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm ))

Love it. I like the way you've outlined the scale of things -- seems great. Also, her character design came out wonderfully.

Thanks...I think having stats for sponsors might be a good idea if anything interesting comes up, like two sponsors trying to get opposite things done in the arena. And the physical stats are for, well, just in case.

Princess Zaleria
Race: Human.

Zoraida has a little sister. It may not be important now, but it may be later. Her name is Zaleria. She, too, is a sorceress, and as far as her big sister is concerned, is a brat as well.

Zaleria just turned 18, and although Zoriada would prefer her to stay at home, she calls her a "Tyrant" every time she tries to enforce some discipline on her. Although this would get anyone else in their kingdom put to death, Zoraida has a tiny soft spot for her sister, and instead plots against her quietly. Worst of all, Zaleria thinks she is better fir for the throne than her older sister, the queen, but those who really know her find her just as evil, but more in an immediate and petty way than her sister's long-term planning kind of evil.

She's obsessed with fashion, the color purple, and her pet crow, which is seen flying all over the kingdom, spying on people. Although she is often seen with her crow, some of her subjects believe she has the ability to polymorph into the bird, or at least a similar one. It would explain her ability to get from place to place as quickly as she does.

She also thinks she's a nymphomaniac, although under her sister's watchful eye and given the fact that no one in her kingdom will cross the queen, she hasn't had a chance to experience sex, yet. But she likes to talk about how she's a nymphomaniac. Perhaps her appearances outside of Nysia, where Zoraida is universally feared, are intended as "exploratory." And perhaps this is why Zoraida discourages them.

The two sisters' relationship has been anything but rosy, but Zoraida is the eldest, the queen, and the superior mage, and so far, she's controlled the relationship, leading to a bruised ego and a bruised backside for Zeralia more than once.

In Enferia, the princess is more unknown than her big sister, and in anonymity, she sees an opportunity for mischief. She'd like to overthrow Zoraida, and "rule tyrannically" over her life the way she did hers, but, if she must, she'll settle for finding ways to irritate, annoy, and embarrass her.

Zeralia's becoming a ruler would please Zoraida's enemies, but might be politically imprudent as Zoraida's opinion of the princess is correct: She's no evil queen--she lacks the vision. Instead, she's a self-possessed royal brat.

Obviously, the princess won't end up in the arena..unless she's caught doing something wrong, while trying to remain "incognito" so her sister doesn't learn of her antics.
